HCMC – A new high-speed boat service linking HCMC and the Mekong Delta provinces of Tien Giang and Ben Tre is expected to be launched in the next quarter to promote local tourism, according to the HCMC transport authority’s plan.
The HCMC Department of Transport has sent a plan on the new waterway tourism service to the transport and tourism authorities of Tien Giang and Ben Tre.
Under the plan, high-speed boats will shuttle between Bach Dang Wharf in HCMC’s District 1 or the Saigon Port in District 4 and the inland waterway terminals in Tien Giang and Ben Tre. The waterway route between HCMC and Tien Giang is 110 kilometers long, and the one between the city and Ben Tre 120 kilometers long.
The relevant departments and agencies will jointly work to complete a proper itinerary.
Operators of the services reportedly include the Saigontourist Company, the Greenlines DP Technology Company, and the Daily Company. Each of them plans to operate two boats, with each able to carry 75-151 passengers. Besides, they will work together to offer the service at reasonable prices to attract tourists.
Further, the high-speed boat service will be available from 6:00 to 18:00 daily. The companies will consider adjusting the operating hours based on the demand.
Aside from the two routes mentioned above, the HCMC Transport Department proposed the municipal government work with the authorities of neighboring Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province to soon launch a high-speed boat service linking the city with Con Dao Island, which is off Ba Ria-Vung Tau.
