HCMC — The HCMC Union of Friendship Organizations (HUFO) this morning, November 25, launched a fundraising campaign to support provinces in central and Central Highlands Vietnam hit by recent floods.

Speaking at the launch event, Ho Xuan Lam, vice chairman of HUFO, called for contributions from member associations, noting that many communities are facing severe hardship. He said support could take the form of cash, essential goods, medicines or assistance with recovery efforts.

“Every contribution, whether large or small, provides meaningful encouragement to people in disaster-hit areas,” Lam said.

By 10 a.m., the union had received more than VND400 million, 200 boxes of instant noodles and one package of clothing. The donations will be transferred to the HCMC chapter of the Vietnam Fatherland Front for relief operations.

According to a quick report released at 6:30 p.m. on November 24 by the Vietnam Disaster and Dyke Management Authority, floods have damaged 1,307 hectares of aquaculture, up 150 hectares from earlier the same day. The number of people dead or missing remained at 102, reported local media.

Flooding has also damaged over 82,400 hectares of rice and crops and 117,070 hectares of other farmland. More than 3.37 million livestock and poultry have been killed or swept away. Authorities recorded 308 collapsed houses, 981 damaged homes and nearly 202,570 flooded houses.

Several areas in Dak Lak and Lam Dong provinces remain inundated, while Gia Lai and Khanh Hoa provinces reported no more flooded homes. Landslides disrupted traffic at 12 points along national highways 20 and 27C.

Power outages have cut data transmission at 62 commune-level units across Gia Lai, Dak Lak and Khanh Hoa. Initial economic losses are estimated at VND13.25 trillion, with Dak Lak and Khanh Hoa suffering the largest damage.
