HCM – Vietnam’s National Assembly today, October 25, approved a resolution relieve Bui Van Cuong of his post of Secretary-General of the National Assembly (NA) and member of the NA Standing Committee, also granting his request to step down as a deputy of the 15th National Assembly.

Cuong, 56, will retire at his personal request, in line with existing policies and retirement benefits.

He was elected Secretary-General of the NA in April 2021 with 96.88% of the vote. Cuong has been serving as a member of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee in the 11th, 12th, and 13th terms, and has served as a deputy in the 13th, 14th, and 15th tenures of the NA.

Under the prevailing regulation, the Secretary-General, who is elected, dismissed and removed by the NA, is responsible for advising the NA and supporting NA activities. The Secretary-General also collaborates with various committees and organizations to draft resolutions on issues assigned by the NA and its Standing Committee.

Currently, the National Assembly Office is managed by four deputy heads, including Nguyen Manh Hung, Vu Minh Tuan, Nguyen Thi Thuy Ngan, and Pham Dinh Toan.
