HCMC – The 15th National Assembly (NA), the nation’s legislature, is scheduled to hold an extraordinary session this afternoon, May 2, to address personnel matters.

“Based on the Constitution and the law, the NA Standing Committee decided to call the seventh extraordinary session of the 15th NA to address personnel matters within its jurisdiction,” the NA said on its website (quochoi.vn).

The NA extraordinary session comes shortly after the 13th Party Central Committee (PCC) on April 26 approved Vuong Dinh Hue’s resignation from his positions as member of the Politburo and of the PCC, and chairman of the 15th National Assembly (NA) for the 2021-2026 term.

The Law on the Organization of the National Assembly stipulates that the NA meets twice a year. In the event that the State President, the NA Standing Committee, the Prime Minister, or at least one-third of the total number of NA deputies request, the NA will hold an extraordinary session.

Since the beginning of the term of the 15th NA until now, there have been six extraordinary sessions being convened. This parity between the number of extraordinary sessions and regular sessions marks an unprecedented occurrence in the NA’s history.
