Nearly 50 earthquakes shake Kon Tum in three months

HCMC – Kon Plong District in the Central Highlands province of Kon Tum has recorded 48 earthquakes so far this year, according to a report by the provincial Department of Natural Resources and Environment.

Data showed that the earthquakes occurred between January 1 and March 19, with five in January, 18 in February, and 25 in March. On March 16, eight quakes were recorded.

No casualties or property damage have been reported.

The authorities have instructed relevant agencies to disseminate information about earthquakes and response measures to help local residents.

The largest earthquake to hit the area was a 4.7 magnitude one on August 23, 2022, with a focal depth of 8.2 kilometers.

Kon Plong District has constantly been hit by quakes since April 2021, right after the Thuong Kon Tum hydropower plant started operating its first generator in March.
