HCMC – The Politburo has picked Nguyen Thanh Nghi, the 49-year-old Minister of Construction, as permanent deputy secretary of the HCMC Party Committee for the 2020-2025 term.

Le Minh Hung, Politburo member and head of the Central Organization Commission, presided over a ceremony in HCMC today, January 25, to present the appointment decision to Nguyen Thanh Nghi.

Nghi’s appointment comes after his predecessor Nguyen Ho Hai took up the post of secretary of the Party Committee of Ca Mau Province in the Mekong Delta.

Speaking at the ceremony, Nguyen Van Nen, secretary of the HCMC Party Committee, said that Nghi’s appointment came at a pivotal moment for the city as it is preparing for the HCMC Party congress.

In his acceptance speech, Nghi acknowledged the responsibility entrusted to him by the Politburo, the Party, and the people of HCMC. He promised to work alongside the city’s leadership to strengthen the Party’s integrity and accomplish the goals outlined in the Party’s resolutions.
