HCMC – A technician of Vietnam Airlines Engineering Company was killed after he was struck by lightning while on duty at the Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi last night, September 22.

Tran Hoai Phuong, director of the Northern Airports Authority, told Thanh Nien Online today, September 23, that the incident happened when Hanoi City was experiencing rains, coupled with thunderstorms, at 6.05 p.m.

The 40-year-old man was checking an aircraft for Flight VN7715 scheduled to depart from Hanoi City to Vinh City in the central province of Nghe An at that time.

After the lightning strike, the victim was rushed to a nearby hospital but died on the way.

Planes and equipment at the airports have repeatedly been struck by lightning, but this is the first time an employee on duty at the airport has died from lightning strikes, Phuong said.
