HCMC – Vietnam has plans to repatriate some 10,000 citizens until the end of October amid the Covid-19 pandemic, said Nguyen Thi Huong Lan, vice head of the Consular Department under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Up to now, the Consular Department and Vietnam’s foreign commissions have received more than 68,000 registrations for repatriation from Vietnamese citizens living overseas.

Following the directives of the prime minister, the national steering committee for Covid-19 infection prevention and control and leaders of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Consular Department has collaborated with the relevant agencies in Vietnam, Vietnam’s foreign commissions and local and foreign airlines to operate flights repatriating Vietnamese citizens.

Over the past five months, they have operated nearly 140 flights to bring some 40,000 Vietnamese citizens back to Vietnam from more than 50 countries and territories.

From now until October 31, more than 30 flights will be operated to repatriate some 10,000 citizens from disadvantaged backgrounds who need to return home.
