HCMC – Noi Bai International Airport handled a record number of international passengers during the recent New Year holiday, highlighting continued growth at northern Vietnam’s largest airport.

During the four-day New Year break from January 1 to 4, the airport served 410,601 passengers and 2,566 flights, according to the Noi Bai International Airport authority.

On average, the airport handled about 102,600 passengers and 642 flights per day during the holiday period.

The peak day was January 4, when passenger traffic reached 114,674, including 52,484 international and 62,190 domestic passengers. A total of 675 flights were recorded that day, split almost evenly between international and domestic services.

International passenger numbers on the peak day exceeded 52,000, marking the highest level ever recorded at the airport and surpassing earlier forecasts of around 50,000 passengers.

Airport officials said the figures reflect strong travel demand and reinforce Noi Bai’s role as a key aviation gateway for the capital in the early days of 2026.

To cope with rising traffic, Noi Bai has upgraded infrastructure at Terminal 2. Since December 15, new check-in counters, self-service kiosks and automated baggage drop systems have been put into operation, helping to boost capacity and ease congestion in the international departure area.

The airport has also continued to apply the Airport Collaborative Decision Making (A-CDM) model to optimize infrastructure use and improve on-time performance. Passenger flows at peak hours are closely monitored to allocate staff and equipment more efficiently, while security screening lanes are operated at maximum capacity during busy periods.

Despite the sharp increase in passenger volumes over the New Year holiday, airport authorities said operations remained stable thanks to close coordination with airlines and ground service providers, expanded infrastructure at both terminals and greater use of technology in flight operations management.

Officials said Noi Bai is prepared to accommodate further growth in passenger traffic in line with rising travel demand.
