Party Gen Sec and President To Lam arrives in New York for UN Summit

HCMC – Vietnam’s General Secretary and President To Lam arrived in New York on the afternoon of September 21 (local time) for the United Nations Summit of the Future and the 79th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 79).

Party General Secretary and President To Lam, along with his spouse and a high-level Vietnamese delegation, was greeted by Vietnamese Ambassador to the United States Nguyen Quoc Dung and Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang, head of the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to the United Nations at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York.

This is the first multilateral diplomatic mission and working visit to the U.S. by To Lam in his capacity as Party General Secretary and President, and it also marks his first attendance at the high-level sessions at the United Nations General Assembly.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son said that General Secretary and President To Lam  will deliver, at the United Nations, key messages supporting multilateralism and emphasizing the UN’s role in promoting peace and global development while reaffirming Vietnam’s foreign policy of independence and self-reliance. This visit highlights Vietnam’s commitment to diversifying international relations and actively contributing to peace and cooperation worldwide.

The trip also marks the first anniversary of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the U.S. and Vietnam as both nations will celebrate the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2025.
