HCMC – Party General Secretary To Lam affirmed that with the determination, intelligence, and strength of the Vietnamese people, the country will continue to achieve remarkable successes and make new strides in the new era.

The nation’s leader was speaking at a national golden-jubilee ceremony marking the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the south and the reunification of the nation, held in HCMC this morning, April 30.

He said that at this solemn moment, the nation pays deep respect and heartfelt gratitude to President Ho Chi Minh – the visionary leader of the Party and the people, a great teacher of the Vietnamese revolution, a hero of national liberation, a world cultural icon, and a distinguished figure in the international communist movement.

Lam extended his respectful greetings, warm regards, and best wishes to leaders, former leaders of the Party, the State, and the Vietnam Fatherland Front, war veterans, heroic mothers, heroes of the People’s Armed Forces, and heroes of labor; generals, officers, soldiers, veterans, militiamen, guerrillas, youth volunteers, frontline workers, families with meritorious service to the country, international guests, all compatriots and comrades nationwide, overseas Vietnamese, and the Party Organization, administration, and people of HCMC.

Driven by the burning desire to defend national independence and unity, and with the spirit of “Nothing is more precious than independence and freedom,” people across the country stood united in fighting the invaders. Every corner of the nation bears witness to the bravery, sacrifices, and glorious victories of the Vietnamese armed forces and people, he said.

He noted that building on the valuable lessons from the victory, the entire Party, people, and armed forces united under the Party’s leadership to recover, rebuild, and advance the nation.

Fifty years after reunification and nearly four decades of implementing Doi Moi (renovation) policy, Vietnam has overcome numerous challenges and achieved remarkable and historically significant accomplishments, establishing a strong national foundation, growing potential, elevated international standing, and enhanced global reputation.

To realize the aspiration of building a prosperous Vietnam, Party chief To Lam underscored the need to fully unleash productive forces, mobilize all available resources, and tap into the country’s potential and strengths to drive robust socio-economic development.

In 2025, Vietnam aims to achieve economic growth of at least 8%, with double-digit growth targeted for the 2026–2030 period. The country is determined to realize its strategic goals: becoming a modern industrialized upper-middle-income country by 2030, and a high-income developed nation by 2045.

Vietnam will also focus on resolving institutional bottlenecks, restructuring its economic space, and expanding development zones. The country aims to enhance decentralization, improve the allocation and coordination of economic resources, and establish a new growth model driven by science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation.

These efforts are intended to boost productivity, quality, efficiency, and competitiveness. The private sector is identified as a key driver of the national economy. Vietnam will continue to push for breakthroughs in thinking and approaches to foster new productive forces and higher-quality growth.

As a nation that has endured immense sufferings and losses from the past wars – and one that has also greatly benefited from peace and international cooperation in recent decades – Vietnam earnestly wishes to work with the global community to build a future of peace, prosperity, solidarity, and development, he said.

The 50th anniversary of the liberation of the south and the reunification of the nation is also a historic moment for all Vietnamese—across all social groups, ethnicities, religions, Party members, citizens at home and abroad—to unite as one in solidarity and join hands in building a prosperous, thriving, civilized, and happy Vietnam.

Party General Secretary To Lam affirmed: “With the courage, wisdom, and strength of Vietnam, we achieved the great victory of the 1975 Spring Offensive. We are determined to continue securing even greater accomplishments and creating new feats in this new era – an era of prosperity, civilization, and national rise. We will build a stronger, more beautiful nation, standing shoulder to shoulder with the world’s powers, as envisioned by President Ho Chi Minh and aspired to by the entire Vietnamese people.”
