HCMC — The provinces of Phu Yen and Dak Lak have proposed a VND29.7 trillion expressway project to connect the Central Highlands with the south-central coast.
The proposed 122-kilometer expressway would link the eastern North-South Expressway in Dong Hoa Town, Phu Yen Province, with National Highway 14 in Dak Lak Province.
The project is planned under a public-private partnership (PPP), using a build-operate-transfer (BOT) contract. Local authorities have asked the central Government to approve the project and allocate funding from the state budget for the 2026–2030 period.
The expressway would have four lanes and emergency stopping lanes, with a design speed of 100 kilometers per hour. Construction is expected to begin in 2026 and be completed by 2029, following preparation between 2025 and 2026.
Authorities said the existing National Highway 29, the current main route between the two provinces, is in poor condition and cannot meet increasing transport demand.
The proposed road would serve as a key east-west corridor, linking the Central Highlands with the south-central coastal region. It would also connect with other major routes, including the Ho Chi Minh Road, National Highway 1, and coastal roads.
