HCMC – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, accompanied by his spouse and a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation, arrived at Las Américas International Airport in Santo Domingo on the evening of November 19 (local time), starting their official visit to the Dominican Republic.

The visit is at the invitation of President Luis Rodolfo Abinader Corona and his spouse.

It represents a historic milestone as the first official visit to the Dominican Republic by a high-ranking Vietnamese leader. The visit underscores Vietnam’s commitment to strengthening solidarity, friendship, and cooperation with the Dominican Republic, especially as the two nations approach the 20th anniversary of diplomatic relations.

During the visit, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh is scheduled to hold talks with President Luis Abinader Corona and meet with key figures, including the President of the Senate, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, and leaders of left-wing political parties in the Dominican Republic.

The diplomatic relationship between Vietnam and the Dominican Republic has seen steady growth. While economic and trade ties remain modest in scale, bilateral trade has experienced significant increases over the years.

Trade turnover rose from US$36.5 million in 2013 to nearly US$150.2 million in 2022, reaching US$95.8 million in 2023 and US$56 million in the first nine months of 2024.
