Quang Ngai to spend VND17 billion to hire Cuban health experts

HCMC – The government of Quang Ngai Province has approved a scheme to spend more than VND17 billion hiring health experts from Cuba for the Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital in five years in a bid to improve the quality of medical services at the hospital and provide local people with better treatment and healthcare.

The hospital will cover 25% of the cost and the rest will be paid by the province’s budget, according to VnExpress news site.

The Cuban experts will support the treatment, training of medical staff and transfer of expertise at the hospital from 2021 to 2025. The province will hire three experts between 2021 and 2022 and four other experts between 2023 and 2025. They will have at least five years of experience in obstetrics, pediatrics and gynecological cancer.

Established in 2016, the Quang Ngai Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital covers more than 27,000 square meters with 600 beds. Officially put into service in 2017, the hospital now has 29 faculties and departments, 476 medical workers, 106 doctors and 28 pharmacists.

Cuba has one of the best healthcare systems in the world. In the World Health Organization’s ranking of countries in terms of healthcare performance, Cuba ranked 36th of the 191 WHO member countries in terms of healthcare outcomes and 39th in terms of system performance.

The Latin American country has more than 50 years of experience in international cooperation in the healthcare sector, with more than 30,000 doctors participating in exchange programs with other countries.
