HCMC – The Ministry of Transport has suspended flights connecting the northern province of Quang Ninh and the Central Highlands province of Gia Lai with HCMC from June 5 until further notice to prevent the spread of Covid-19 as new infections in HCMC remain high.
The ministry tasked the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam with informing local air carriers and relevant agencies of the suspension, the local media reported.
The authority was also told to work with the Transport Health Service Administration and the authorities of Quang Ninh and Gia Lai to keep a close watch on the Covid-19 outbreak to promptly adjust air transport services to the Van Don (Quang Ninh) and Pleiku (Gia Lai) airports.
On June 3, the ministry suspended flights between Haiphong City and HCMC until the pandemic is brought under control.
Earlier, Quang Ninh and Haiphong had written to the ministry proposing suspending flights from HCMC to the two localities due to the raging Covid-19 in HCMC.
HCMC started two weeks of social distancing on May 31 in line with the Prime Minister’s Directive 15, while its Go Vap District and Thanh Loc Ward in District 12 were practicing social distancing in line with Directive 16, which is stricter than Directive 15.
