HCMC – Party General Secretary To Lam has stressed that science and technology are vital to driving Vietnam’s economic growth above 8% this year, calling them the foundation for building a strong and prosperous nation.

At a May 29 meeting on the implementation of the Politburo’s Resolution 57-NQ/TW, which pushes for breakthroughs in science-technology, innovation and national digital transformation, Lam urged faster action to keep pace with global advances. “This is a matter of utmost urgency,” he said.

The Party leader noted that both French President Emmanuel Macron and Hungarian President Tamas Sulyok expressed strong interest in Vietnam’s science and technology development during their recent visits to the country.

Without science and technology, it will be impossible to achieve growth of over 8% in 2025, fulfill the targets set by the 13th National Party Congress, or lay the groundwork for double-digit growth in the future, he said.

Lam said Resolution 57 is not merely a political slogan but a practical action plan to propel Vietnam’s development. He emphasized the need for regular monitoring of its implementation and timely resolution of bottlenecks and shortcomings to prevent delays.

So far, ministries, agencies, and localities have completed 103 out of 600 tasks set out in the resolution. While there have been some positive developments, bottlenecks remain and several overdue tasks are still unresolved.

Issued on December 22, 2024, Resolution 57 identifies the development of science, technology, innovation, and national digital transformation as a top strategic breakthrough.

It positions these fields as key drivers for modernizing the means of production, improving production relations, reforming national governance, promoting socio-economic development, preventing the risk of falling behind, and propelling the country forward in the new era.
