HCMC – A pilot plan for organizing self-drive tours between Mong Cai City of Quang Ninh Province and Dongxing City of China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region has been approved by Quang Ninh authorities, with the plan beginning on October 30 and lasting until September 30, 2026.

Chinese-registered cars in self-drive tours can travel to Halong City through National Highway QL18A and the Halong-Mong Cai Expressway, after completing immigration procedures.

During the trip, cars with Chinese license plates are prohibited from entering National Highway 18C and military zones. They can stop for filming and taking pictures, except in restricted areas, said Quang Ninh authorities.

Chinese cars participating in self-drive tours must have no more than eight seats, and bear logos of travel agents. Three hundred cars will be allowed to conduct tours per month, using 10 cars at most for each tour.

Self-drive tours that permit Chinese tourists to drive their own cars to Quang Ninh were first launched in 2016.

This arrangement also allows Vietnamese cars with five or seven seats to travel to Guilin City, covering a distance of 600 kilometers. Similarly, Chinese cars must complete a 180-kilometer journey before reaching Halong City, Quang Ninh Province.
