HCMC – The Drug Administration of Vietnam, under the Ministry of Health, has agreed to extend the shelf life of Cuba’s Abdala Covid-19 vaccine stored at 2-8 degrees Celsius from six to nine months.

The expiration extension is based on the assessment of the stabilization related to the vaccine shelf life and health agencies’ recommendations, the ministry said today, February 28.

The ministry affirmed that the expiration extension would cause no change to the quality, safety and efficacy of the Abdala vaccine.

This is the second Covid vaccine to have its shelf life extended by the ministry, after the Pfizer vaccine.

Earlier on October 8 last year, the ministry approved the Abdala vaccine for emergency use in Vietnam, with a shelf life of six months.

Under the ministry’s guidelines, the Abdala vaccine is administered to people aged between 19 and 65. The interval between doses of the three-shot vaccine is 14 days, the local media reported.
