Sheraton Saigon Grand Opera Hotel is hosting “Ticket to Penang,” a culinary showcase at Saigon Café to celebrate Malaysia’s National Day on August 31 and Vietnam’s National Day on September 2.
The event opened on August 28 with a ceremony attended by diplomats from the Malaysian Consulate General in HCMC, officials from Malaysia Tourism, representatives of Penang Marriott Hotel, and media partners. Organizers said the program highlights cultural exchange between the two Southeast Asian neighbors through cuisine.
Penang, known for its diverse street food shaped by Malay, Chinese, and Indian influences, has been brought to Saigon with the help of guest chef Chang Song Cheong from Penang Marriott Hotel. Chef Cheong is preparing signature dishes including Char Koay Teow, Assam Laksa, Penang Hokkien Mee, Mee Goreng Mamak, and Ramly Burger.
These offerings are integrated into Saigon Café’s premium seafood buffet, which also features lobster, oysters, sashimi, and international selections. The hotel said the aim is to present more than a dining experience, positioning the festival as a cultural journey that reflects the shared traditions and ties between Malaysia and Vietnam.
