HCMC – Binh Phuoc 1 Bridge connecting Thu Duc City and District 12 over the Saigon River was damaged after being hit by a ship traveling under the bridge.
The crash damaged a side beam of the main span, lower wing plate, web plate and horizontal beam frame of the bridge, according to the HCMC Department of Transport.
Right after the detection of the damage on August 8, the relevant authorities visited the site to regulate traffic. Currently, trucks and coaches with over 16 seats are temporarily prohibited from using the bridge for inspection and repair.
The authorities have yet to determine the time of the crash as the investigation is underway and the ship that caused the crash has not been found so far. The damages caused by the incident are expected to be announced before August 20.
Put into use in 2003, Binh Phuoc 1 Bridge which is 480-meter long, 11-meter wide with two
lanes for vehicles and a sidewalk, has no weight limit and was in good condition before the
incident.
