HCMC – Ministry of Public Security investigators on November 10 detained and filed charges against six people for allegedly accepting bribes to help director of Thu Duc City Hospital in HCMC Nguyen Minh Quan escape punishment.
Quan had been arrested earlier for allegedly violating regulations on tenders in medical equipment procurement.
The six comprise Bui Trung Kien and Le Thanh An, former officials of the Police Department against Corruption, Smuggling and Economic Crimes; lawyer Bui Thi Hong Giang; general director of Viet Media Travel Corporation Tran Van Long; Ha Duy Tuan, a laborer in Bac Ninh Province’s Thuan Thanh District; and Nguyen Ngoc Trieu, ex-member of the management board of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha. Trieu has returned to the secular life and holds no posts in the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha.
The six were charged with abusing their position and power to appropriate assets. They were found to have received bribes before Quan was prosecuted, the local media reported.
Earlier, Quan and Nguyen Van Loi, director of Nguyen Tam Production Service Trading Co. Ltd., were charged for allegedly violating the Bidding Law in procuring medical equipment at the Thu Duc City Hospital, leading to heavy losses for the State.
