South Korea’s new President reaffirms strategic ties with Vietnam

HCMC – South Korea’s new President Lee Jae-myung has reaffirmed Vietnam’s importance as a key regional partner and expressed his intention to deepen bilateral cooperation in a phone call with Vietnamese State President Luong Cuong.

The conversation was held at the Presidential Palace in Hanoi on the morning of June 12. It marked the first official exchange between the two leaders since President Lee took office on June 4.

President Luong Cuong appreciated President Lee’s emphasis on relations with the Asia-Pacific region, noting that the early phone call reflected South Korea’s strong commitment to its partnership with Vietnam.

The Vietnamese head of state affirmed Vietnam’s support for South Korea’s development policies and expressed confidence that under President Lee Jae-myung’s leadership, the country would continue to prosper.

He reaffirmed Vietnam’s consistent stance on valuing its relationship with South Korea and expressed a desire to work with President Lee Jae-myung to promote a more substantive, effective, comprehensive, and long-term partnership in the years ahead.

For his part, President Lee Jae-myung called on Vietnam to continue facilitating favorable conditions for South Korean businesses to invest and expand their operations in the country in the coming years.

During the call, the two leaders agreed to implement major directions to further deepen the comprehensive strategic partnership. This includes maintaining and promoting high-level and multi-level delegation exchanges, as well as expanding cooperation in defense, security, and the fight against transnational crime.

They pledged to strengthen collaboration through concrete measures in economic, trade, and investment cooperation as part of joint efforts to tackle global challenges.

Both leaders committed to elevating cooperation in science, technology, and innovation, especially in high-tech industries, into a central pillar of the bilateral partnership.
