HCMC – The VN-Index of the Hochiminh Stock Exchange was flat today, February 4, and trade was poor as investors were cautious when the Lunar New Year is drawing near.
With 209 gainers and 220 losers, the benchmark index added a mere 0.09 point, or 0.08% compared to the previous session, at 1,112.19. The southern market saw 523 million shares worth over VND12 trillion changing hands, down 25.5% in volume and 21.7% in value over the session earlier. Shares traded in block deals contributed more than VND1.6 trillion to the total value.
Trading in the group of bluechips became less active as investors locked in profit after rising stock prices in the two previous sessions.
In the VN30 basket, 10 stocks advanced and 14 others declined. Regarding bank stocks, VPB improved 3.2%, BID rose slightly while the remainder closed unchanged like VCB and TCB or dropped like CTG, MBB, HDB, STB, and TPB.
Besides this, other largecaps including dairy firm VNM, property developer VIC, steelmaker HPG, and insurer BVH reversed course to end lower, with VIC shedding 2.3%. Meanwhile, tech firm FPT and housing developer KDH inched up over 3%.
Aside from bank stocks, many securities stocks were weak. Just some of them including VTS, BVS, BSI, AGR hit their upper limits, while HCM, SSI, HBS, SHS rose slightly or returned to their reference prices.
Among speculative stocks, construction firm ROS reached its ceiling price and was the most actively-traded stock on the southern bourse, with 26.31 million shares transacted.
On the northern bourse, the HNX-Index improved 0.06 point, or 0.03 versus the previous session, at 223.68, with 71 winners and 80 losers.
