HCMC – Flight delays have dropped as weather in northern Vietnam has improved, alleviating congestion at Tan Son Nhat International Airport.

On February 6, or the 27th of the final lunar month, nearly 900 flights carrying more than 129,000 passengers were operated at Tan Son Nhat airport. Though check-in counters, security checks and departure longues were crowded with passengers since the early morning, the airport saw less congestion than a few days ago.

Flight information boards showed that some flights needed to reschedule their departures or arrivals, but most of flight schedules remained unchanged.

The decrease in flight delays and cancellations has helped reduce the number of passengers waiting in the departure lounges, facilitating airport operations, according to Tan Son Nhat airport.

The pre-Tet surge of flights, coupled with heavy fog in northern Vietnam, led to nearly 700 flights at Tan Son Nhat airport being delayed and canceled in the first three days of February.

The mass Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday migration from HCMC to central and northern provinces is still underway as the week-long Tet begins on February 10.
