HCMC – Vietnam is ready to work with the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) to incorporate emerging technology sectors into their existing cooperation framework, with a focus on artificial intelligence (AI) research and development tied to smart agriculture, urban planning, and transportation.

The move is aimed at creating new growth drivers as two-way trade between Vietnam and the EAEU reached US$8.3 billion in 2025.

Deputy Prime Minister Ho Quoc Dung delivered the message at the plenary session of the Eurasian Economic Forum themed “Digital Transformation and the Trust Economy: Challenges of the New Era” held on May 28 in Astana, Kazakhstan.

The forum brought together leaders of EAEU member states, including Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Armenia, along with experts to discuss digital transformation and AI development.

For Vietnam, science, technology, and innovation are regarded as strategic breakthroughs for entering a new development era. The implementation of the free trade agreement (FTA) between Vietnam and the EAEU will be aligned with emerging trends such as the digital economy, AI, cross-border trade digitalization, and the development of transcontinental transport corridors.

To support this vision, Vietnam proposed establishing a policy dialogue mechanism on the responsible use of AI, data protection standards, and cybersecurity, while strengthening cooperation among research centers to train talent in computer science.

Viewing the EAEU as a reliable partner in AI development, Vietnam expects the new initiatives to bring balanced benefits to both sides.
