HCMC – Ten individuals who were involved in the terrorist attacks that killed nine people in Daklak Province have been sentenced to life imprisonment.

After five days of trial, the People’s Court of Daklak on January 20 delivered the verdicts for 100 defendants involved in the case on the administration headquarters of two communes, Ea Ktur and Ea Tieu, resulting in nine deaths and multiple injuries.

The court said that these individuals’ actions were extremely dangerous, constituting a threat to national security, the political system, and the stability of government. Their conduct has also stirred public discontent and indignation.

Regarding charges of terrorism aimed at subversion, Y Sol Nie and H Wuen Eban were found to be the ringleaders who led and incited other defendants to assault the headquarters of the people’s committees.

The two defendants were sentenced to life imprisonment, instead of capital punishment as proposed by the Daklak People’s Procuracy, because their criminal actions were influenced and incited by foreign groups, and they already admitted to their crimes.

Eight other defendants who were actively involved in the terrorism, led the attacks and caused harm to the health and lives of officials and civilians in Daklak, also received a life sentence.

The remaining 43 defendants were sentenced to 6-20 years in prison for the same charges.

Regarding the terrorism charges, 45 defendants got sentences ranging from three years and six months to 11 years behind bars, including six whose whereabouts remain unknown.

Le Van Nghia received a sentence of two years in jail for supporting others in illegal entry or exit from the country. Y Cing Bya got a sentence of nine months in prison for concealing criminal activities.

In terms of civil liability, the court held 92 defendants responsible for compensating the victims. They are required to cover medical and burial expenses, as well as property damages.
