Three killed in fishing boat collision in Quang Nam waters

HCMC – Three fishermen died after two fishing vessels collided in the waters off the central province of Quang Nam at dawn today, June 6.

At 4:00 a.m., fishing boat QNg 91426 TS captained by Tran Van Cong, a 47-year-old resident in Quang Ngai Province, crashed into another fishing vessel with no identification number. The incident occurred seven nautical miles from the coast of Binh Duong Commune, Thanh Binh District.

After the collision, the boat QNg 91426 TS sank, causing eight fishermen on board to fall into the water.

After being notified of the crash, the Cua Dai border team quickly dispatched forces and vehicles for a rescue operation.

At 10:00 a.m., five of these fishermen were rescued, while competent forces found the bodies of the three others, said Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Hoang, head of the Cua Dai border team of the Quang Nam Border Guard.

The deceased are Vo Dinh Nam, Nguyen Van Thanh and Tran Guong, aged between 54 and 61. They resided in Quang Ngai Province.

The police are determining the cause of the collision and hunting the unknown boat, the local media reported.
