HCMC – Three seaports – HCMC, Haiphong, and Cai Mep – have made it to the 2025 list of the world’s 100 busiest container ports.
According to the UK’s Lloyd’s List, HCMC Port ranks 22nd, up by three places from last year, the Government news site reported. Its cargo throughput amounted to over 9.1 million TEUs in 2024, rising 23.8% against 2023.
Haiphong Port comes in 29th, up by four places over 2024, with annual throughput of around 7.1 million TEUs in 2024, up 12.8% from 2023.
Meanwhile, Cai Mep Port has climbed to 30th place, also up by four spots from last year, handling more than seven million TEUs in 2024, a 29.2% increase from 2023.
The Lloyd’s List noted that last year’s sharp rise in cargo throughput was largely driven by U.S.-China trade tensions. Total throughput at the world’s top 100 container ports reached 743.6 million TEUs, up 8.1% from the previous year.
Asia continued to dominate the global rankings, with Chinese ports alone accounting for more than 40% of worldwide container volume. Singapore ranks second, handling over 41.1 million TEUs.
