Traffic accidents kill 294 in HCMC in H1

HCMC – A total of 779 traffic accidents occurred in HCMC in the first six months of 2023, killing 294 people and injuring 470 others, according to the HCMC police.

Compared to the same period last year, the city saw a decrease of 36 fatalities and 198 injuries. Notably, the number of traffic accidents also edged down 10% year-on-year to 260 cases, with severe accidents dropping by 40%.

However, severe accidents still accounted for over one-third of the total accidents.

Between January and June, the city’s traffic police dealt with over 320,000 traffic violations, up by over 77,000 cases against the same period last year. Additionally, nearly 54,000 driving licenses were seized or revoked.

The local traffic police will continue their efforts to enhance road safety and enforce traffic regulations in the second half of the year.
