HCMC – Tran Luu Quang, member of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat and head of the Central Policy and Strategy Commission, has been appointed secretary of the HCMC Party Committee for the 2020-2025 term.
The appointment was announced this morning (August 25) at a ceremony held at the HCMC Party Committee Hall, where the Politburo presented the appointment decision.
Quang succeeds Nguyen Van Nen, who has been assigned to serve as Standing Member of the Subcommittee on Documents for the 14th National Party Congress.
The Standing Board of the HCMC Party Committee currently has six members, led by Tran Luu Quang. The five deputy secretaries are: Nguyen Thanh Nghi, 49; Nguyen Van Duoc, 57, chairman of the HCMC People’s Committee; Vo Van Minh, 53, chairman of the HCMC People’s Council; Nguyen Phuoc Loc, 55, chairman of the HCMC Fatherland Front Committee; and Dang Minh Thong, 48.
Quang, born in 1967 in Trang Bang Ward, Tay Ninh Province, holds a master’s degree in public management, a degree in mechanical engineering, and a bachelor’s degree in political theory.
Over the course of more than 30 years in public service, he has held various positions of leadership at the local level as well as key posts in the Government and the Party Central Committee.
From 2015 to 2019, he was secretary of the Tay Ninh Provincial Party Committee.
In February 2019, Quang was appointed permanent deputy secretary of the HCMC Party Committee, and more than two years later, the Politburo assigned him as secretary of the Haiphong City Party Committee.
In January 2023, at the second extraordinary session of the 15th National Assembly, he was approved for the post of deputy prime minister.
In August 2024, the Politburo entrusted him with the role of Head of the Central Economic Commission, which was renamed as the Central Policy and Strategy Commission in February this year.
