HCMC – Dang Ngoc Cam and Nguyen Quoc Khanh both as Council members of the Vietnam National Tea Corporation (Vinatea) have been detained for allegedly violating regulations on the management and use of State property, resulting in financial losses and wastefulness.
With approval from the Supreme People’s Procuracy, the police searched the residences and workplaces of these two individuals, said Lieutenant General To An Xo, spokesperson for the Ministry of Public Security (MPS).
The Criminal Investigation Police Department (C03) earlier detained Nguyen Thien Toan, former general director of Vinatea and caretaker chairman of Vinatea’s Members Council, on the same charges.
The initial investigation results showed that those individuals signed a resolution contributing and divesting capital related to the utilization of land at 225 Nam Ky Khoi Nghia, District 3, HCMC. The capital divestment was not conducted through public auction, causing financial losses to the State.
Vinatea, formerly a state-owned enterprise under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, was converted into a joint-stock company in 2015. It is known as one of the largest companies by tea production output in Vietnam.
