Two former editors-in-chief of Thanh Nien newspaper detained

HCMC – The HCMC police today, January 16, detained two former editors-in-chief of Thanh Nien newspaper over alleged violations of regulations on the management and use of State assets, causing losses and wastefulness.

Nguyen Cong Khe, chairman of Thanh Nien Media Corporation and former editor-in-chief of the HCMC-based daily newspaper, and Nguyen Quang Thong, who succeeded Khe as editor-in-chief of the paper and already retired, were charged with committing multiple violations in the process of carrying out a real estate development project which featured an office tower, a commercial center, and a luxury apartment tower in District 4, HCMC.

The police searched the detainees’ residences and workplaces, said Lieutenant General To An Xo, spokesman of the Ministry of Public Security.

Nguyen Cong Khe served as editor-in-chief of Thanh Nien from 1988 to 2008, and was then succeeded by Nguyen Quang Thong, who assumed the position from 2009 to 2021.
