HCMC – A search and rescue operation is underway in the south-central province of Binh Dinh after a Yak-130 training aircraft crashed on the morning of November 6. Both pilots aboard the aircraft have contacted their base.
Colonel Nguyen Xuan Son, political commissar of the Binh Dinh Military Command, said efforts to locate the pilot have been hampered by difficult terrain and inclement weather.
The incident occurred at around 10:38 a.m. local time during a training flight when the pilots reported a failure in the landing gear. Both pilots were forced to eject, local media reported.
The rescue teams are working to locate and rescue the missing pilots despite the challenges posed by heavy rain, flooding, and darkness, added Colonel Son.
The search operation involves 700 military personnel, local militia, and villagers. Rescuers are equipped with night vision equipment, food, and water as they are navigating mountainous areas.
The Yak-130 is a twin-engine jet trainer aircraft used by the Vietnam People’s Air Force. It is designed for advanced pilot training and light attack missions.
