HCMC – Two major Singaporean companies, United Overseas Bank (UOB) and Sembcorp Development, have pledged to strengthen their long-term presence in Vietnam, according to local media reports.
National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man met yesterday, December 2, with Wee Ee Cheong, deputy chairman and CEO of UOB, and Lee Ark Boon, CEO of Sembcorp Development and chairman of VSIP Group, in Singapore during his official visit.
During the meeting, Wee Ee Cheong highlighted Vietnam as a priority market for UOB, emphasizing the bank’s commitment to building long-term partnerships and fostering investment relationships.
As the only Singaporean bank operating in Vietnam, UOB is expanding its footprint with the opening of a new branch in HCMC. The bank aims to support foreign-invested businesses in Vietnam, driving job creation and economic growth.
NA Chairman Tran Thanh Man reiterated Vietnam’s commitment to creating a favorable environment for foreign investors like UOB to expand their activities in the country.
In discussions with Sembcorp’s leadership, Chairman Tran Thanh Man expressed Vietnam’s interest in continuing its collaboration with the company, particularly in developing smart, sustainable industrial parks and clean energy projects.
Sembcorp CEO Lee Ark Boon noted that after 28 years of investment in Vietnam, VSIP has become a hallmark of successful bilateral cooperation.
He reaffirmed Sembcorp’s dedication to investing in VSIP and expanding into other provinces and cities, focusing on green and high-tech initiatives.
On this occasion, Sembcorp also sought continued support from Vietnam, particularly in advancing its new value chain developments.
