HCMC – The Vietnam Expressway Corporation (VEC) has proposed building electric vehicle (EV) charging stations at seven expressway rest areas it manages, local media reported.

VEC, responsible for developing and managing expressways in Vietnam, made the proposal following the introduction of Circular No. 09, which mandates that rest areas must have EV charging stations.

The company has suggested installing a minimum of 30 chargers per rest area, supported by a dedicated transformer station and other necessary infrastructure.

VEC has been authorized by the prime minister to operate services along these highways. The Ministry of Transport has picked VEC as the main investor of five expressway projects, including Noi Bai–Lao Cai, Cau Gie–Ninh Binh, Danang–Quang Ngai, HCMC–Long Thanh–Dau Giay, and Ben Luc–Long Thanh.

For the two rest areas still in the planning phase, VEC recommended incorporating EV charging stations into the master design and overall investment plan.

The company also suggested updating the designs for three parking areas to include EV charging stations.
