HCMC – Vietnam Airlines will open a direct service between Hanoi and Amsterdam from June 16, marking the first direct air link between Vietnam and the Netherlands.

The new service is part of Vietnam Airlines’ strategy to expand its European network and strengthen connectivity with the Netherlands, a major economic, logistics and aviation hub in Europe.

The airline will operate three round-trip weekly flights on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays using wide-body Airbus A350 aircraft. The schedule is designed to facilitate travel from Europe to Vietnam and allow convenient onward connections to the carrier’s domestic and Asian networks, including HCMC, Danang, Nha Trang and Phu Quoc.

Nguyen Quang Trung, executive vice president of Vietnam Airlines, said the Hanoi–Amsterdam route is a milestone in the airline’s European expansion plan. He noted that operating services to one of the world’s leading aviation hubs would help boost trade, investment and people-to-people exchanges between Vietnam, the Netherlands and Europe.

With the addition of Amsterdam, Vietnam Airlines will operate 12 direct routes linking Vietnam to eight European cities: Paris, Frankfurt, London, Munich, Milan, Copenhagen, Moscow and Amsterdam.

Amsterdam Schiphol Airport is one of Europe’s largest aviation and logistics hubs, serving as a key gateway to North America, Africa and other regions. Vietnam Airlines said securing landing slots at the capacity-constrained airport reflects the carrier’s operational capability and growing international standing.

The Netherlands is Vietnam’s largest trading partner in Europe. Vietnam’s exports to the country exceeded US$11 billion in 2025, while Dutch investment in Vietnam totals about US$16 billion. Around 27,000 Vietnamese nationals live, study and work in the Netherlands, supporting steady travel demand between the two countries.

Market data show two-way passenger traffic between Vietnam and the Netherlands reached more than 122,000 in 2024 and continued to grow in 2025. Passenger volumes on the Hanoi–Amsterdam route alone rose by over 40% year-on-year.

Vietnam Airlines said the nonstop service will shorten travel time, reduce reliance on transit hubs and improve passenger experience. It is also expected to support air cargo, particularly high-value Vietnamese exports such as electronics, textiles, fresh agricultural products and seafood, by speeding up delivery times and improving supply chain efficiency.
