HCMC – The Ministry of Health has approved India’s Covaxin Covid vaccine for emergency use, making it the ninth Covid-19 vaccine to be endorsed in Vietnam.

The vaccine is manufactured by Bharat Biotech International Limited in India, with each 0.5-ml dose of the Covaxin vaccine for injection containing six micrograms of inactivated Covid antigen, the local media reported.

On November 4, the World Health Organization granted approval for India’s Covaxin vaccine for emergency use. The vaccine is reportedly 78% effective against Covid-19.

Covaxin is the first Covid vaccine developed in India to win WHO’s emergency use approval.

India approved Covaxin for emergency use in early 2021. To date, the country has administered some 121 million Covaxin doses, accounting for 11% of India’s total doses given to people.

Vietnam earlier approved AstraZeneca, Pfizer, Janssen, Sputnik V, Moderna, Sinopharm, Hayat-Vax and Abdala for emergency use.

The country has received some 125 million Covid vaccine doses. As of this morning, November 10, Vietnam had administered over 94 million doses of the Covid vaccine to people nationwide.
