Vietnam breaks ground on and inaugurates 234 projects nationwide

HCMC – A total of 234 projects nationwide, with total investment exceeding VND3.4 quadrillion, were inaugurated and got off the ground simultaneously today, December 19.

These include 148 new groundbreakings and 86 works inaugurated or opened for technical operation. Of the total, 38 projects are managed by central ministries and agencies, 39 by state owned groups and corporations, and 157 by local authorities.

State capital accounts for more than VND627 trillion, or 18% of total investment, while the remaining 82%, about VND2.79 quadrillion, comes from non-state sources, according to the Ministry of Construction.

The ceremonies were held in a hybrid format in 79 locations nationwide, marking the 79th anniversary of Vietnam’s National Resistance Day on December 19. The main venue was the groundbreaking ceremony for the Olympic Sports Urban Area project in Hanoi.

Major projects which got off the ground include the Olympic Sports Urban Area in Hanoi with investment of VND925 trillion, the Red River Scenic Boulevard project worth VND855 trillion, a railway rail and special steel manufacturing project in Dung Quat costing VND10 trillion, the Tan Phu-Bao Loc Expressway with investment of VND18 trillion, and a high end tourism and service complex in Van Don worth VND51 trillion.

Key projects inaugurated or opened to technical traffic include sections of the eastern North-South Expressway from Can Tho to Ca Mau, Hue International General Hospital, and the first passenger flight under Phase 1 of the Long Thanh International Airport project.

According to Minister of Construction Tran Hong Minh, as of December 19, Vietnam has completed or opened to technical traffic 3,513 kilometers of expressways nationwide, including 3,188 kilometers of main routes and 325 kilometers of access roads. 

By the end of 2025, the total is expected to reach 3,813 kilometers, comprising 3,345 kilometers of main routes and 458 kilometers of access roads.
