HCMC – Party General Secretary To Lam and Cambodian Senate President and People’s Party President Hun Sen have pledged to raise two-way trade between the two nations to US$20 billion, following last year’s breakthrough of over US$10 billion.
On September 1, at the Party Central Committee’s headquarters, To Lam met with Hun Sen, who led a high-level Cambodian delegation to Vietnam to attend the celebrations of the 80th anniversaries of the August Revolution and National Day (September 2).
During the meeting, Party General Secretary To Lam expressed Vietnam’s desire for stronger, more effective ties between the two Parties and States, as well as among the three Parties and nations, in all areas of cooperation.
Hun Sen highly valued the historical significance of Vietnam’s August Revolution and National Day, saying the victory served as a great source of inspiration for national liberation movements worldwide, particularly in Southeast Asia.
The two leaders agreed to strengthen political trust, increase delegation exchanges and people-to-people interactions; firmly prevent their territories from being used for hostile activities; accelerate the completion of border demarcation and marker planting; and work together to maintain security, order, and combat cross-border crime.
On economic, trade, and investment cooperation, the two sides agreed to step up efforts to soon achieve the target of US$20 billion in bilateral trade, after surpassing the US$10 billion milestone in 2024.
Vietnam is currently Cambodia’s third-largest trading partner, while Vietnamese investment projects have made practical contributions to Cambodia’s socio-economic development and improving local livelihoods.
During their talks on regional affairs, Hun Sen highlighted progress in Cambodia–Thailand border relations, noting results achieved through the Regional Border Committee (RBC) and General Border Committee (GBC) mechanisms.
Party General Secretary To Lam commended these advances, emphasizing that peace, stability, and cooperation along the Cambodia-Thailand border are crucial not only for both nations but also for the region’s shared development.
