HCMC – Vietnam is seeking to deepen its collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) to advance sustainable agriculture, add more value to agricultural products, and tackle climate change challenges.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized this during a meeting with FAO Director-General Qu Dongyu and his delegation on February 6, as part of their official visit to Vietnam, according to the Government news site (baochinhphu.vn).

Chinh noted that Vietnam is currently implementing major programs and initiatives, including the National Action Plan for transforming the food system into a transparent, responsible, and sustainable model by 2030, as well as the project for the sustainable development of one million hectares of high-quality, low-emission rice in the Mekong Delta.

To strengthen cooperation, the Prime Minister urged FAO to continue supporting Vietnam in agricultural sector restructuring, focusing on high-value, green, sustainable, and smart development while improving climate resilience.

He also called for FAO’s assistance in industrializing and urbanizing rural areas and promoting green rural development.

FAO Director-General Qu Dongyu encouraged Vietnam to further enhance its partnership with FAO, particularly by leveraging its key role in tripartite cooperation programs between FAO, Vietnam, and African countries, as well as in South-South cooperation.

These efforts aim to contribute to the global transformation of sustainable agriculture and food systems.
