HCMC – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh will visit Poland and the Czech Republic and attend the 55th Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland, from January 15 to 23, announced the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The trip is made at the invitation of Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala, and Professor Klaus Schwab, the founder and executive chairman of the WEF. His Europe tour will feature bilateral meetings in Switzerland and mark the 75th anniversary of Vietnam’s diplomatic relations with Poland, established in 1950.

During a 2024 meeting at the World Economic Forum with Polish President Andrzej Duda, Prime Minister Chinh reiterated Vietnam’s strong commitment to its partnership with Poland. He emphasized the potential for significant growth in trade, particularly for Polish exports entering the Vietnamese market.

Both leaders expressed enthusiasm for elevating the bilateral relationship to a new level. This upcoming visit aims to translate these aspirations into concrete actions.

Key discussions are anticipated to include a loan agreement for the construction of six offshore rescue vessels, funded by Poland under favorable terms. Vietnam is also keen to explore Polish cooperation in shipbuilding and workforce training programs

Meanwhile, the Czech Republic, which considers Vietnam a key partner in Southeast Asia, aims to expand collaboration across sectors. Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala emphasized this during his 2023 visit to Vietnam, citing over 70 years of diplomatic ties.

Vietnamese people in the Czech Republic, numbering around 100,000, are recognized as the country’s 14th ethnic minority group. The community contributes to local economic and social development and strengthens bilateral relations.

Chinh’s attendance at WEF Davos includes discussions on Vietnam’s ongoing cooperation with the forum. In 2024, Vietnam launched the Center for the Fourth Industrial Revolution (C4IR) in HCMC, part of WEF’s global network.

The center is the second of its kind in Southeast Asia and aligns with a memorandum of understanding between Vietnam and WEF for 2023–2026.
