Vietnam yet to reopen door to foreign tourists: PM

Must read

HCMC – Relevant units and agencies have been tasked with mapping out solutions to restructure tourism and restore international tourism in Vietnam but the country has yet to reopen its door to international tourists, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc told a meeting with members of the Private Economic Development Research Board and the Youth Presidents’ Organization on July 16.

The country has been operating flights to repatriate Vietnamese citizens from abroad, including those from Equatorial Guinea infected with Covid-19, VnExpress news site reported, citing the prime minister.

At the meeting, PM Phuc also expected members of the board and the organization to propose various measures to spur the country’s economic growth amid the ongoing global coronavirus pandemic as its 19 major partners are still struggling with the health crisis.

Some firms noted that Vietnam should develop infrastructure for industrial parks to welcome a new flow of investment capital, while others proposed relaxing visa requirements for foreign investors and experts.

The Government will quickly set up administrative procedures on the National Public Service Portal to facilitate investments, stated PM Phuc.

Meanwhile, representatives of tourism firms expected electricity prices to be reduced as electricity bills have accounted for 20% of the costs of hotels.
