Gold rises, dollar edges down

HCMC – Domestic gold prices moved higher on the morning of May 4, with SJC-branded gold bars increasing by VND600,000 per tael from the close of the previous session, while the U.S. dollar at commercial banks edged down slightly against the Vietnamese dong.

At around 9:00 a.m., Saigon Jewelry Company (SJC) quoted SJC-branded gold bars at VND163 million per tael for buying and VND166.6 million per tael for selling, up VND600,000 from the previous session. ACB listed the metal at VND163.5 million for buying and VND166.5 million for selling. Meanwhile, Mi Hong quoted SJC gold bars at VND164.5 million for buying and VND166 million for selling, down VND300,000.

Gold rings also moved higher, with SJC quoting prices at VND163.1 million per tael for buying and VND166.1 million per tael for selling, up VND600,000 from the previous session.

Globally, gold traded at around US$4,595 per ounce, down US$20 from the same time in the previous session.

Domestic silver prices fluctuated but edged higher overall. For silver traded per kilogram, at 8:55 a.m., Ancarat Vietnam quoted prices at around VND76.11 million per kg for buying and over VND78.45 million per kg for selling, up VND134,000–133,000 from the previous session. At 9:01 a.m., Phu Quy listed silver at VND76.56 million per kg for buying and over VND78.93 million per kg for selling, up VND426,000–514,000.

For silver traded per tael, DOJI quoted silver at VND14.31 million per five taels for buying and VND14.85 million per five taels for selling, up VND80,000–85,000 from the previous session.

Globally, silver prices stood at US$75.57 per ounce, up US$0.35 from the previous session.

On the same morning, the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) set the central exchange rate at VND25,112 per U.S. dollar, down VND1 from the previous session.

At commercial banks, the U.S. dollar edged down. Vietcombank quoted the greenback at VND26,137 for buying and VND26,367 for selling, unchanged from the previous session. ACB listed the dollar at VND26,160 for buying and VND26,367 for selling, down VND1 on the selling side.
