Dong Nai reclaims land for Long Thanh cargo facilities

HCMC – Authorities in Dong Nai City have reclaimed nearly 30 hectares of land from the Southern Airports Authority to hand over to Vietnam Airlines for the development of cargo warehouses and terminals at Long Thanh International Airport.

The move is aimed at accelerating service infrastructure in tandem with the construction of the airport’s first phase. The land recovery and repurposing follow approvals issued by the Ministry of Construction in late 2025, focusing on key areas designated for aviation logistics.

Under Decision No. 1717/QĐ-UBND, nearly 15.3 hectares will be used to build and operate cargo handling warehouses numbered 5 through 8. Meanwhile, more than 14.6 hectares will be allocated under Decision No. 1719/QĐ-UBND for the development of Cargo Terminal No. 2. The land had previously been managed by the Southern Airports Authority for civil aviation oversight.

The handover comes as the Government presses ministries and localities to remove bottlenecks and ensure the flagship national project begins commercial operations later this year. Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Tuc has underscored the project’s strategic importance and the need for coordinated efforts to keep it on schedule.

However, challenges remain. According to Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV), the current on-site workforce stands at around 8,457, just 60% of the required 14,000. Shortages of construction workers, along with limited availability of design consultants and supervision personnel for critical packages such as the passenger terminal and transport infrastructure, are putting pressure on quality control and project timelines.
