Vietnamese to be provided with free Covid-19 vaccines

Must read

HCMC – Vietnamese people will receive free shots of Covid-19 vaccines, according to the national steering committee for Covid-19 infection prevention and control.

At a meeting on February 23, the steering committee noted that the country had tried to import Covid-19 vaccines early but it was difficult to purchase a large volume of the vaccines. Therefore, the first doses will be prioritized for certain groups of individuals, the local media reported.

Once the supply of Covid-19 vaccines is ensured, residents will be vaccinated at no charge.

Minister of Health Nguyen Thanh Long had earlier said that Vietnam needed 150 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines this year. Vietnam will buy and receive 60 million doses and will negotiate with other drugmakers to buy the rest.

The first batch of Covid-19 vaccines will be shipped to Vietnam in the next few days.

On February 26, locally-made Covid-19 vaccine Nanocovax will be tested on volunteers in Long An and Hanoi in the second phase of its human trial.
