Vietnam’s seafood exports near US$9.2 billion in Jan-Nov

HCMC – Vietnam’s seafood exports have expanded by 11.5% year-on-year to nearly US$9.2 billion so far this year, according to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).

November exports have amounted to nearly US$925 million, slightly down from October. Shrimp exports have risen by 21.8% year-on-year to US$345.5 million in the month.

In the first nine months of the year, shrimp exports have generated over US$3.5 billion in revenue, a 13.6% increase compared to the same period last year, contributing 38.8% of total seafood export revenue.

Pangasius (tra fish) and tuna exports have also showed positive growth. Tra fish exports have reached US$1.8 billion, up by 9.5%, while tuna exports have generated over US$906 million, a 17.4% year-on-year increase.

China, including Hong Kong, emerged as Vietnam’s largest seafood importer, with November growth of an impressive 61%, bringing total exports to the region to over US$1.7 billion.

With the industry’s current growth momentum, Vietnam’s seafood sector is poised to hit its 2024 export target of US$10 billion, an 11.5% rise compared to the previous year. Shrimp and tra fish are expected to contribute US$4 billion and US$2 billion, respectively.
