Vietnam’s stock market rallies after U.S. announces 90-day tariff pause

HCMC – Vietnam’s stock market rallied sharply today, April 10, with a wave of stocks soaring to their daily ceiling prices, following U.S. President Donald Trump’s surprise announcement of a 90-day hiatus in much of his reciprocal tariff agenda.

The market surged as investors flooded in with high-priced buy orders, but a lack of sellers left many orders unfilled. This drove a further buildup of ceiling-price buy surpluses across various sectors.

The session ended with low liquidity, despite being a historic day for the market in terms of both the sharp rise in the index and the number of stocks hitting their ceiling prices.

On the Hochiminh Stock Exchange, 534 stocks gained, with a remarkable 372 hitting their daily ceiling prices, while only seven declined. The VN-Index climbed 74.04 points, or 6.77%, to end the session at 1,168.34.

Trading volume reached nearly 370 million shares, with a total value of VND6.31 trillion, sharply down from the previous session. Block deal transactions contributed more than 89.6 million shares, valued at a total of VND1.65 trillion.

The rally followed four straight sessions of steep losses, during which the VN-Index plunged amid mounting fears of an escalating global trade war.

All 30 stocks in the VN30 basket today hit their ceiling prices, with few sellers in sight. SHB led in matched volume with 18.9 million shares traded, well ahead of SSI, which came in second with 5.22 million shares.

HPG and MBB stood out with the largest ceiling-price buy surpluses, at 81.2 million and 67.1 million shares, respectively. Trailing behind the two blue-chips were SSI and SHB.

The HNX exchange saw 221 gainers, including 139 hitting their ceiling prices, while only 18 stocks declined. The HNX-Index jumped 15.74 points, or 8.17%, to 208.32 points.

Over 50.9 million shares worth VND 564 billion were transacted, with block deal transactions contributing VND211.4 billion to the overall value.
