Apart from the Complex of Hue’s Monuments and intangible heritages recognized by UNESCO as World Cultural Heritage, the central province of Thua Thien-Hue also owns village relics that are rich in cultural and historical values.
La Chu Village – an ancient village nestled in Huong Chu Ward, Huong Tra Town, Thua Thien Hue Province – was established over 630 years ago.
The communal house and pagoda there were built along with the establishment of the village, associated with historical persons such as King Ham Nghi, King Quang Trung, female general Bui Thi Xuan.
Co Lao Village as well as the communal house in Huong Toan Commune, Huong Tra District (now Huong Toan Ward, Huong Tra Town) were established under the reign of the Nguyen Lords (1558 – 1774).
The Co Lao communal house is a place to worship the guardian spirit ancestors who were first villagers.
Van Xa is an ancient village of Thuan Hoa region (including Thua Thien Hue today) which is the maternal hometown of King Minh Mang. Therefore, works of the village, typically the communal house, feature the architectural and cultural imprint of the Nguyen’s Dynasty. Van Xa communal house was built in 1865.
From downtown Hue City, visitors can go along National Highway 1A to the North, about 13km, to Huong Van Ward, Huong Tra Town, and then turn right on the village’s road before coming to the Van Xa communal house relic.
Dug in August 1967, when the resistance war against the U.S. army, the tunnel of Thua Thien-Hue Party Committee is located in the Khe Trai area, Huong Van Ward, Huong Tra Town, about 25 km northwest of Hue City.
Lieu Coc Twin Towers complex is a typical work of Champa culture, estimated to be about 1,000 years old. It was once ranked by the Far East Archaeological Institute as a valuable relic in the whole of Vietnam and Indochina. It is nestled in Bau Thap Village, Huong Xuan Commune, Huong Tra District.
Tinh Tam Lake is located to the north of the ancient Imperial Citadel. King Minh Mang asked to build pavilions, bridges, and gardens, making Tinh Tam Lake a wonderful scenic spot of the imperial land.
According to some documents, this lake owns the most precious lotus of all lotus varieties in Vietnam.
Located in Thanh Luong Village, Huong Xuan Ward, Huong Tra Town, Dang Huy Tru’s tomb and temple were recognized as national monuments in 1991.
Dang Huy Tru was an innovative thinker, a writer, and a poet.
He is also seen as the guru of Vietnamese photography. Dang Huy Tru died on August 7, 1874, during his mission against French colonialism.
