HCMC — The Ministry of Construction has proposed spending over VND43.5 trillion building the Quy Nhon-Pleiku Expressway, a 144-kilometer route connecting the central province of Quang Ngai with the Central Highlands province of Kon Tum.
The four-lane expressway, designed for speeds of 80 to 100 kilometers per hour, is planned to start at the eastern North-South Expressway in Quang Ngai’s Duc Pho District and end at the western North-South Expressway in Kon Tum City, reported the Government news website (baochinhphu.vn).
The revised plan includes an additional eight kilometers compared to the initial plan due to rough terrain near Violak and Mang Den mountain passes.
Local governments would fund land clearance, while the central Government would cover construction and related costs.
Under the standard procedure, the investment policy would be approved in October 2025, project approval in May 2026, construction in December 2026, and completion in December 2029. If a special mechanism is applied, construction could begin in October 2026 and finish by September 2029.
The ministry said the expressway would create a direct, high-speed road between Quang Ngai and Kon Tum and enhance connectivity with Laos, Cambodia, and coastal economic zones.
The project is expected to reduce transport costs, shorten travel time, and support economic activities along the Bo Y–Kon Tum–Mang Den–Quang Ngai corridor.
If the project is assigned to local authorities, the ministry will hand over its preliminary research for the next steps.
