HCMC – Work has started on an expressway connecting HCMC with the industrial centers of Thu Dau Mot in Binh Duong Province and Chon Thanh in Binh Phuoc Province, a project designed to fuel economic growth in the nation’s southeastern region.

The groundbreaking ceremony took place today, February 1, the fourth day of the Lunar New Year, in Binh Duong Province, with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attending.

The HCMC-Thu Dau Mot-Chon Thanh Expressway, which costs an estimated VND20.8 trillion, has a total length of over 52 kilometers, which is divided into three sections.

HCMC will invest VND2 trillion in a 1.7-kilometer road that will connect to the expressway. Binh Duong Province will oversee the main 52-kilometer section, including 45.6 kilometers of new expressway and 6.5 kilometers of existing road that will be upgraded, at an investment of VND17.4 trillion.

Binh Phuoc Province will construct a 6.6-kilometer section at a total cost of VND1.474 trillion, with construction already underway since last December.

The first phase of the expressway will include four traffic lanes and two emergency stopping lanes, with completion scheduled for 2027. The project is funded through a combination of public and private investment.

In Binh Duong, construction costs of VND8.833 trillion will be covered by a public-private partnership (PPP) format. The central Government will provide VND4 trillion for land clearance, with the province contributing the remaining VND8.53 trillion.

Funding for Binh Phuoc’s section will consist of VND1 trillion from the central Government and VND474 billion from the province.

The expressway is expected to improve connectivity between industrial zones and urban areas, driving economic expansion in the region.

The road will also connect with the planned Chon Thanh-Gia Nghia Expressway, creating a key transportation corridor linking the southeastern region with the Central Highlands.
